vSphere Cloud Provider Interface (CPI)

Chainguard's redistribution of the vSphere CPI (vsphere-cpi) Helm chart, pre-configured with hardened Chainguard Images.

The vSphere CPI is the Kubernetes cloud-controller-manager for VMware vSphere. It runs as a DaemonSet on control-plane nodes and initializes nodes with vSphere-provided metadata (provider ID, addresses, region/zone topology labels).

Prerequisites

Authentication is required to access this chart and its images. First, authenticate with Chainguard and configure your environment:

chainctl auth login
chainctl auth configure-docker --pull-token --save
helm registry login cgr.dev

The CPI needs to reach a vCenter. Provide the connection details as a ConfigMap (cloud-config) and Secret (vsphere-cloud-secret), or enable the chart's built-in config with --set config.enabled=true and the config.* values.

Installation

helm install vsphere-cpi oci://cgr.dev/ORGANIZATION/charts/cloud-provider-vsphere \
  --namespace kube-system \
  --set config.enabled=true \
  --set config.vcenter=<vcenter-host> \
  --set config.username=<user> \
  --set config.password=<password> \
  --set config.datacenter=<datacenter>
